Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll

So I thought it would be fun to put together all the terms in the bible that refer to sexuality, drugs and drinking, with a little bit of rock n roll thrown in. This is by no means an exhaustive list. It is just information that I have gathered from Wikipedia and Greek/Hebrew lexicons.

I love history and learning the origins of particular things. I also think it is interesting to see that the devil has really not come up with any new ideas on how to bind people over the last 5000 years. Not that sex, certain drugs and rock n roll are evil in all circumstances. But this list is to show the seedy side of things. There is nothing that is happening in 2010 in the way of sin that was not happening back in the day. So if anything that should give us hope that God was able to change people back then and He is able to change people today!

What Do You Mean By That? Terms & Definitions

THESE ARE SOME TERMS THAT I HAVE USED IN MY BLOG...AND THEIR DEFINITIONS.

ATONEMENT+++to cover over, clean, to pardon.

BRIMSTONE+++believed to be the element of sulphur, could also be pitch or tar.

CONSECRATE+++to set apart, dedicate, fullness, complete.

COVENANT+++an agreement, a contract.

DEITY+++god or gods

DELIVERANCE+++escape from oppression, set free.

DEMONIC+++of the devil. What angels are to God; demons are to the devil.

DOMINION+++the rule that God gave us over all creation, man and the devil. Psalm 8:6

EDIFY+++to build up as apposed to tear down, to make strong.

FATALISM+++the doctrine that all life's events are fixed in advance by God and man is

powerless to change them. I personally do NOT agree with this doctrine.

FEAR OF THE LORD+++honor, love and respect. Mindful to walk in His ways.

FINITE+++defined limit.

FORNICATION+++to be unfaithful with your heart. Physically with man/woman...spiritually

with God.

FRANKINCENSE+++natural resin used as incense or perfume in ancient times.

FREEWILL+++mans personal freedom given by God to make his own choice, even if that choice is against God.

FRUITS OF THE SPIRIT+++love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Galatians 5:22-25

GRACE+++the free gift of God's merciful, loving kindness to man. Pardon from sin. God's sufficiency and fullness in the lives of those who have accepted His pardon and live in accordance with His truth and word.

HARLOT+++someone who is unfaithful; physically or spiritually.

HEAVEN+++eternal life with God.

HELL+++eternal separation from God.

HOLY+++worthy, set apart, consecrated.

IDOLATRY+++worship of an actual idol. Obsessive devotion to something other than God.

INFINITE+++without limit.

INTIMACY+++deep, fulfilling personal relationship with God, Jesus, Holy Spirit

LEGALISTIC+++following rules obsessively and oppressively without a Spirit of grace. An outward performance lacking an inward change of heart. Working against the fruits of the Spirit.

MONOTHEISM+++belief in one God.

OFFERING+++in the old testament it was a blood or grain sacrifice. Today it can mean worship or showing respect to God.

OMNIPOTENT+++infinite power of God.

OMNISCIENT+++infinite knowledge of God.

PAGAN+++of the devil, against God.

POLYTHEISM+++belief in many gods.

REPENT+++to turn back from wrong/sin. One Hebrew word means "to comfort".

RIGHTEOUS+++to be straight, upright, correct, with God.

SACRIFICE+++in the old testament it was a blood or grain sacrifice. Jesus was the last blood

sacrifice. Today it is giving up of something important to you for the benefit of

others and God.

SALVATION+++to be saved, rescued.

SIN+++choice outside of God's best plan for you. To wander from the right way.

SOJOURN+++to wander, to stay only temporarily.

SOVEREIGN+++supreme, permanent authority.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE+++the spiritual battle between good(God) and evil(devil). The battle

waged by the devil against the will of God, the battle man became apart of by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good & evil.

TABERNACLE+++the dwelling place of God with the Israelites while in the desert before the

temple was built. Place where sacrifice was done and where the ark of the covenant was kept.

TENT OF MEETING+++same as the tabernacle.

TRUTH+++"I(Jesus) am the way, the truth and the life;..." John 14:6

"Many will follow their destructive ways and because of them the way of truth will be slandered" 2 Peter 2:2
